I cooked some eggs on my new stainless steel pan and I can't get them off! I recall that you are not supposed to use abrasive cleaning products or scrub pads. Any advice?

Did you try soaking them first, in hot soapy water?

Edit: if you have, there are nylon scrub pads out there that shouldn't harm your pan.

Soaked all night. Then put fresh hot water today. Then let soak for an hour then more hot soapy water. Where do I get nylon scrub pads?

I get them at the local supermarket (publix, Stop n Shop) - I'm sure they have them at Walmart too.

Incidentally, another method is to dump some baking soda into the pan, fill a bit with water (not to the top, just make sure the bottom is well covered) and then simmer over low heat for... a while, an hour or so. You can also try this with dishwasher powdered soap, but, maybe that is too abrasive?

Definitely use the baking soda method recommended above. Years ago I threw away a perfectly good quality stainless steel pot because I didn't know how to get the cooked-on food off, having tried hot water, soap, etc. The next time it happened, I boiled some baking soda in a pot with burned on food, and the baked on stuff just came "sliding" on out.

Why shouldn't you use abrasive cleaning products on stainless steel? I use soft scrub. Works pretty well.

I have used oven cleaner. I spray it on thick in the pan and then let it sit for about 3 hours and it usually comes off pretty easy.
