How do you use baking soda and vinegar to clean a shower drain? I understand you pour baking soda down first, then add vinegar, then.what? It bubbles out? Does it make a big mess?

No, it doesn't make a big mess. You do need to follow up about and hour later with a pan of boiling water for it to work the best. We do this with all of our drains.

If you can't physically see hair this is fine. If you can see hair in the drain then use needle nose pliers to pull it out. You may have a strainer on the drain you'll have to remove. The chemical reaction bubbles up and creates a lot of heat which clears the drain. I use sulfuric acid as a preventive method but it stinks when water hits it. Muriatic acid will do the same but don't leave it long and don't use hot water to wash it down. I've seen it melt pvc.

That's a good tip that you should clear any hair first. We too use the vinegar and baking soda in our drains, including the kitchen. Although you can smell the vinegar at first, in the end there are no toxic fumes and the ingredients are inexpensive.
