We have a 16x20 deck with a foundation to support a sunroom --- but we're not going there. Pergola will give us the feel we're looking for. Anyone ever built one from a kit like this https://pergoladepot.com/ ?
Any opinions on pergolas in general? Thanks
We have had two pergolas built over the years. Neither was very expensive to have built from scratch. I think they were both about $2500 and the only took an afternoon to build. And they were a lot sturdier than the kit ones.
I haven't purchased a kit before but have built simple pergolas myself and its rather easy so a kit would be even easier-like putting Ikea furniture together. You would probably need a helper though since they are heavy.
I helped a friend build one from a kit. It was neat, went up fast, looked pretty. they never really used it, at least not while we were there. Everyone had kids. Kids do not sit still under a pergola. Adults run around after the kids or play with them, or do damage control.
It made a nice spot to set up a buffet table for barbques.
Thank you all. I suspected that getting one built from scratch would be cheaper than a kit, but the convenience of the kit seems like it may be worth the upcharge. And yes, "free shipping" is silly to say. Being empty nesters, no kid chasing for us!
Anyone who has one: do you get the feeling of an outside room by the addition of a pergola to a deck?

It absolutely feels like an outside room, I spend many a evenings sitting under ours. I did add some light filtering panels to keep the rain and some of the sun out. I even added a picture to the back wall to get that room feel.
