You are getting close.

The Anahuac disturbances ignited the fuel that lead to independence,

But I am looking for a specific battle related to the Anahuac disturbances

George Childress wrote the Texas Declaration of Independence. He is buried/interred at Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Galveston, Texas. That is the answer to question 7.

Good Job.

Quote:
1. What two gh cities have adopted the nickname "birth place of texas" because of their proximity to a definitive battle in the war for liberty? deer park and _____ - amberazeneth

other cities may be considered the birth place for other reasons. Cities where treaties involving liberty are signed are good contenders.

2. In what city was treaty in which santa anna promised to end hostilities between texas an mexico was signed? I am looking for the present day name of the city. freeport- answered by amberazeneth

3. What was the first (interim) capital of the republic- velasco

apart from treaties, definitive battles, or capitals, another great way of deciding where our country began is by looking at where our country started. Now no one would claim that the us started with native americans. I was always taught that our country was started by the colonist and then the founding fathers sealed the deal.

4. The original colonists first settlement in texas was started in what gh county? -answer- lower brazoria county-amberazeneth

5. What was the first true battle in the war for our liberty called?

6. Another strong contender is where independence was first declared. What city was texas declaration of independence signed?? washington on the brazos

7. Who is the founding father who wrote our declaration and where is he buried? George Childress wrote the Texas Declaration of Independence. He is buried/interred at Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Galveston, Texas

8. Apart from austin, texas has had 6 other capitals (all in and around gh). Name them. the six capitals before austin are: Houston, galveston, harrisburg, columbia, velasco and washington on the brazos- amberazeneth

9. Apart from stealing our capital, austin also stole the body of the father of texas. Where did steven austin die and where was he buried before the body was moved to austin? Stephen F. Austin died in West Columbia(Columbia), Texas. He was buried in Gulf Prairie Cemetry in the Peach Point/Gulf Prairie/Jones Creek area on Brazoria County Road 804 (Gulf Prairie/Peach Point Road) next to a little white church.- AmberAzeneth

10. The big guns were absent from the convention of 1836, what houston area resident became the interim president of our republic?- David G. Burnett- AmberAzeneth

The Mexican laws forbidding slavery was the first true battle. That is what led to the Anahuac Disturbances. That and Travis' hoax letter. Also, the capture of Bradburn's 19 cavalry men.

Just like the US Republic resulted from a revolt centered around Taxes, The Texas Republic was started around the same premise.

Both was a protest against Taxes.

San Antonio likes to call itself the cradle of Texas Liberty, but almost every darn thing concerning Texas Liberty happened in the Houston Area. pffft a small battle was lost in SA, big deal

I have a more recent trivia item for you, plus an oldie but not mentioned in this thread.

More recent: Houston Independent School District's main administration building is named the Hattie Mae White Center.

Who was Hattie Mae White and why was it named for her?

(I'll answer below) (no fair Googling).

What modern-day newspaper BESIDES the Galveston Daily News was started in Galveston (then opened a branch elsewhere, then moved)? What is the modern outfit it spawned?
