Hello frenz, my husband and I (no kids)are young professions look for our first new home. I work in Baytown and my husband works on westloop610 (near Galleria). Neighborhoods we have looked so far, Shadow creek ranch, Southern Trail, Clear Lake, Summerwoods, Fall creek. We are also thinking memorial area...

Here's what we are looking for,

<40 minutes commute to Baytown
at least 3000 sft.
price range 250-350 K
good school district
good builder (like J Patric, David Weekley, Ashton, VillageBuilder etc.)

My husband also prefers new home, but we are open to 3-5 year old house too. Thanks for the help in advance!!!

Summerwood and Fall Creek are both nice and would work for both commutes.

If checking those out also head up to Eagle Springs. Worth a look and plenty in your price range. Hubby works in Baytown and can get home in abt 30-40 minutes depending on when he leaves. We have friends who work downtown and would not live anywhere else even though the commute can suck at times. Just depends on what you are looking for in a hood. Type in those hood names in the search box and you will find MANY conversations on here abt all of those hoods. Again it is all in what you are wanting and what feels like home for you. It all differs for each of us and what one can tolerate another can't.
Happy house hunting!

Oh, and as far as builders right now we have Village, Highland and Ashton which are all in your range. Oh and David Weekly.

Since you have no kids yet, have you considered one of the many inner loop townhomes that are all within that price range?

Once you have kids and they are school aged, you could consider keeping them in the current schools, going private, or moving. I would assume this would be at least 5-7 years from now. Just another option. It would save you a lot of time on commutes, especially your husband to the Galleria area.

You wont find a new home in that price range in Memorial.
I would forget new and go with established close in neighborhoods like Oak Forest,Timbergrove and wait to move to burbs till you have kids.

A townhome inner loop sounded like good advice.

If hubby like the newer construction, you will not be happy in Timbergrove or Oak Forest.

I work in Baytown and the husband works downtown. We live in Summerwood and it is a good commute for both of us. Door to door, I'm at work in 35 minutes. Husband rides the bus into downtown. It's about 20 minutes to the park and ride, and 25 on the bus. We love Summerwood. Both elem. schools are exemplary, and the neighborhood is friendly and well kept. We've considered Fall Creek and Eagle Springs, but Fall Creek didn't fit, and Eagle Springs just seemed a little farther from Baytown than I want to be. With a brand new HEB opening in Summerwood, and the expansion of the beltway, I think Summerwood is perfectly positioned to have everything we want right there.
