Meritage is fine, a lot depends on the construction super. If you do a search for any large national homebuilder you will see complaints.

Bought a Meritage and had a good experience. As the above poster stated a lot depends on the super. Ask people in the neighborhood who built with Meritage how their experience was.

See if you can meet with the super. I could usually tell how it was going to go from that moment.

Us too. We had a great experience with Meritage. But we also had a great super! Definitely makes or breaks a good home building experience.

We bought an inventory home from them in the same neighborhood.
The quality is ok, but customer service could have been better. You
have to email them to get warranty work done, as they never answer
the phone! In our first year, they went through 4 construction Mgr's!
Their rankings in the JD Power survey for Houston have dropped quite
a bit in the past two years. But we really like the neighborhood and
our fellow neighbors. Good luck.

I recommend calling the super directly instead of the builder if you have problems in the first year. Ours would come out directly and take care of an issue within a day or two. Of course if the super changes frequently that wouldn't be an option.

Although with Perry and not Meritage, we just drove over to the area and hunted our super up. He was more than happy to talk to us each and every time. They're busy, but not that busy.
