Thinking about moving to the Katy area. I like Cinco Ranch, but the more I look into it seems like it's just going to be too much money.
I don't really want to spend over 150,000. I'm sure there are some homes you can get for that but just barely. What are my alternatives? Everyone said stay South of 10. Ok sure..but what about east of 99?

Any help would be great. Thank You.

I guess I should put things into perspective. I basically live in Gulfton now (saving gobs of money). I imagine there have to be decent places over there that are way safer than that, even if it's not with the "rich" people.

Check out the listings under South Katy on www.har.com. There are a hundred houses on the market for $150k or less.

I took a look but I don't really know what neighborhoods are good or not. For example some people here wrote that Katy Creek Ranch was a dump and nothing compared to Cinco Ranch. But hey, I can only imagine what they think of where I come from. Some of the other places might be darn decent.

I love living in Katy proper (some people call it old Katy or old KT). It isn't all hustle and bustle.

I live in about as far east Katy as you can get south of I-10 in Memorial Parkway. It's no Cinco, but I paid 130k for a really nice house and I don't feel unsafe....

You might consider a neighborhood with older homes rather than brand new for the same price. The neighborhood mentioned above, Memorial Parkway, and West Memorial are both good choices.

Lakes of Buckingham, its a secured, and very nice neighborhood, also zoned to some really nice schools (Taylor High School).

Yes, they are great - and start at $400K and climb up from there. The OP's budget is $150K.
