This is just HORIBLE.... We're spending billions on unnecessary wars and helping countries that don’t deserve a penny and yet we can’t take care of our own schools and kids, the future of our country. Something is VERY wrong with our government and leaders and this have nothing to do with being democrat or republican.

I have an aunt who works in Fort Bend ISD who is kinda nervous about the future of her job. My mom works in Katy ISD though which has turned into a blessing because instead of laying people off Katy has a hiring freeze. Hopefully though this fiasco can be fixed at a state level though, becaue even though districts like Katy are still chugging along while Fort Bend is screwed, it can only last so long.

I'm so glad I didn't move into that district a few years ago. I have a friend that lives there and her children are changing schools again due to re-zoning.

Money doesn't make your kids intelligent. We spend more here than anyone else, and we don't get what we pay for. The sky is not falling. Budgets have to be balanced. These schools spent money under the assumption their revenue could never decrease. It is no different than a family living paycheck to paycheck to buy luxuries. They didn't adjust quickly when their tax revenues fell in the recession. Time to pay up. They don't have the luxury of printing money like the federal gov't.

Actually, it's a lot different. This is education, not capitalism. We are dealing with children, which are the future of our country. Also, there is a rainy day fund that could help balance the budget without hurting the schools.

The real issue in FBISD and in Texas is the anti-taxation attitude while simultaneously giving tax breaks to attract business. It's a business model that does not work, as has been proven through our huge deficit.

Funny how capitalism lead to the rise of the strongest economy in history with the strongest personal freedoms. Anti-tax? Hell yes. If you don't understand how lowering taxes will actually increase revenue there's not much point in arguing with you. Move to California, pay high taxes, try to find a job with 1 of these evil companies, and then wonder why their schools are in even worse shape than ours.

Again, more money isn't going to lead to a better education.
