I have been wanting to go to Houston for about 6 years now...but instead we moved to this awful place called Florida....don't get me wrong I love the weather, but everything else is just horrible. He has a great job as an IT/IS manager but not paid anywhere near what he should be....I plan on going back to work in September......if I can convince him, what is the likely hood we can land jobs relatively quick? I have many years experience as Office Manager/Admin. Assist. and my hubby like I mentioned is presently a manager in the IS field. Niether of us have college degrees, just many years experience and certs. The main reason I was told Houston was great was for the mental health system there (I have a child that is legally disabled).
Thanks.

I can't speak for your particular fields but the job market in Houston in general is booming.

Love Florida...but as a visitor only.

There is one cause for unemployment in Houston, and it's called "laziness."

Check out the Houston Chronicle and monsters.com for a really good picture of what's in your fields here and how much they pay. For office/admin it's very easy. There are a lot of really good temporary agencies in town that can get you jobs while you interview and a lot of 'temporary' jobs turn permanent if they really like your skills. It's also a good way for you to figure out what part of town you want to settle in before committing.

As for mental health we've got tons of fantastic hospitals, many are in the Medical Center but there's also a lot of others spread all over the city.

Good luck on convincing the hubby.

I live in Austin and hate it -- but I LOVE Houston -- I'd give anything to live there.

Then get a job here and do it. You're most likely gonna make more here and pay less. Austin's as not as good a place to live as to hang out.

houston is a job & work city... not a live or appreciate life city. i would advise anyone to think long and hard about what they want out of life before moving to houston. work to live or live to work? the very reason why my husband and i are leaving houston-- to LIVE in peace & tranquility, to be able to walk somewhere, anywhere; no stiffling heat/humidity, less violence or crime, peace & quiet.... lots of things to consider when relocating. houston would be the last place on my list of places to relocate to for someone wanting a less-stressed existence. just my 2 cents.
