I will be moving with my fiance who will be graduating with her Masters in Social Work. Are there also plenty of job opportunities for her?
What are pros and cons to living in Texas?
Experienced auto mechanic with references will do well here. Social Services, be prepared for a long job search.

Don't forget our property taxes, which are very high, when you buy the house.

You'll like it here, I think.

if she is a social worker and looking to work in the hospitals that will indeed be tough. there are several large SW master's programs in the region and everyone seems to come to houston for work. if she wants to work in the hospital she will at least need her LMSW. she will need to take the test in the state of texas to carry to license to work here.

a straight msw job will be a wait to find as well and likely will be really rough pay and truly entry level(e.g. information and referrals). when i finished my MSW i luckily had a job but many others i graduated with couldnt find jobs and got upset many employers were requiring or only hiring bilingual workers.

Ah, you must not be from around these parts. The only people who ride the busses here are the crazies and, well, more crazies!

FYI, a $300K home will incur $9K in annual property taxes.
