Today I found out that I'm getting a job in Conroe.
Bad thing.... I live in Sugar Land = 1-1/2 hour commute.

I'm very interested in the Klein and Spring ISD area.
I have little kids and education for my kids is very important.
But I don't want to live too far North in case that it doesn't work out in the future.
Right now I'm renting a house for $1000, I'm fine with paying $1200.
When I buy a house in the future, I'll be looking in the $130,000-$160,000 range.

Any recommendations?
Feel free to tell me about restaurants or fun things to take the kids (the oldest one is 7) because I'm going to be visiting that area a lot the next few weekends.
Thanks.

Klein all the way. And I say this as a former Spring ISD'er from K-8. Spring is crap.

The entire budget and money and focus is just for building schools and making the buildings look all nice and pretty but it's like a pretty person with nothing of quality inside (as quoted from a family member a faculty member of a Spring middle school).

You have elementary kids.

Klein.

I noticed on a webpage that I found that Klein's ACT scores is higher than Ft. Bend's. (not bad)

Just look for schools not zoned to Klein Forest if you plan to stick around wherever you setting. Sure you'll hear from the KF white-knighters but in the long run and overall you don't want your kids going to Klein Forest for high school.

With the TAKS score revamping, our flagship Klein High School is not much better than Forest. Collins has the best rating now.
Forest is split into houses. Kids are with a small group their peers throughout their school career.
Guess some people will never get it. Better to assume all minorities are dumb crooks.

Check out the area in north of Spring High school. The closer you are to 45 the better for your commute. The Exxon installation at 45 and Hardy and the new leg of the Grand Parkway will have a huge impact on the quality of Spring schools. They company who sold the land to Exxon is building a big development up there. That might be your spot.

There are some affordable older houses in the heart of spring (Louetta and stuebner). Most of the new developments will be way over your budget.

My wife and I used har.com to find about 20 houses in or price range to rent in Klein ISD and drove through the whole place today and we like what we see.
Besides, we are just renting.... but hopefully, once I sell my house in San Antonio, we'll buy a house in the same area where we rent.
