Hi everyone,

I just found out that I'll be moving to the Houston area in the next few weeks. I'm coming from Chicago and it seems that Montrose/Neartown is the area that will best suit what I'm looking for in a neighborhood. However, my job is all the way down in League City. Is the reverse commute from Montrose to League City bearable? (I would like to note that I've become used to 90+ minute commutes each way in the Chicago area, while I can tolerate a fair amount of traffic I would like to spend a lot less time in my car than that). I hear bad things about Houston traffic, but I haven't spent enough time there to know what this drive will be like.

It depends on if commutes bother you or not. You are looking at 45-55 minutes during peak traffic. 35-40 off-peak sans road construction which is unpredictable.

It's not bad. You will be going against traffic, and moving at full speed (or close to it) most of the way, most of the time. I would put the drive at 30-40 minutes, depends how fast you like to drive.

I did this for a little while and the 35 minutes observation is pretty accurate for the morning. Driving home there were congestion problems near the 610 loop and again at 59 at random times. More often than not it was a pretty smooth 40 minutes. This also depends on how deep into League City you're going.

Right now construction is happening just outside Beltway 8 @ 45 until Jan/Feb, as they are widening that bottleneck.
