The family is relocating to the Houston area. We have 3 children ages 3-10, so school systems are a priority. I need to be within 30-45 minutes of IAH, based on research I have done I am looking at the woodlands and Kingwood. I would like to include other areas but based on travel times, Katy and magnolia seem to be in the hour range. Am I missing something, are my calculations off, are there other areas you might suggest. My price range would be up to 375k, good school system are a priority.
Thanks for any help you might provide.
Jsb

I drive against traffic on I-45 by The Woodlands.
and I guarantee that you will hate that traffic everyday.
Just check on Google maps>Traffic during rush hour.

Today in the morning, something happened on the ramp to get on Hardy toll road (Southbound) before I left home around 6:00am.
I was driving Northbound by that area around 7:40am, whatever happened had been cleared
but the traffic was backed up all the way to Shenandoah.

I hope your not saying it will take me over an hour form the woodlands to IAH during rush hour.
I won't be traveling to downtown but once a month at the most, just looking for a reasonable commute to IAH.
Thanks for the info.
Any ideas on areas greatly appreciated.

Kingwood or Atascocita area is your best bet.

Kingwood or Atascocita for sure. Possibly Spring, but I'm not sure the fastest way to get to the airport from 45.

The fastest way to get to the airport is to cut over to the Hardy Toll Road on Louetta or something, then take the Hardy Toll Road South. The Hardy has an extremely convenient ramp that goes straight into IAH.

It has cut 15 minutes off my trips to IAH from the Klein area (Louetta to Hardy to IAH). Total trip time is about half an hour.

Oakhurst to IAH is about a 12 minute commute, add 5 minutes for middle of KW add 10 more for back of Kingwood.

What your money buys you in Oakhurst, Middle Kingwood, Back of Kingwood

Cypress is about 30-45 minutes from IAH. I take 290 to the beltway to IAH and it takes me 30 mins. with no traffic. I don't have kids at school anymore but I heard the Cypress-Fairbanks school system is good.

The traffic on 290 looks rough to me when I drive by there.

290 is as bad if not worse than 45. plus taking a toll way as part of a daily commute can really eat into free spending money

traffic is so bad in those places you should really just look at the immediate IAH area. Kingwood/Atascocita are close and (as I am really only familiar with Kingwood itself) Kingwood has excellent schools (another reason you want school zoning to KW). Is Oakhurst Kingwood or Porter? It has a Porter address and doesn't go to the same schools. I'd suggest trying to stay inside the Kingwood area. back of KW i'd call more Kings Point, Fosters Mill, Sand Creek and that newer one by Riverwood with the smaller plots

warning: living in the back of KW it can take 20 minutes just to get to the front down Kingwood Drive. But from the front of KW to Airport is like 15 minutes

i dont know why anyone would look to cypress or something further when KW is right there
