Thanks everyone for all your help so far.

I've been wondering if the neighborhoods have a method of disseminating information. I've been living in a rental home in a different state for over a year now, and we have had some crime in our neighborhood. There used to be a quarterly newsletter for neighborhood news but when the crime started, the HOA decided to start a mailing list to keep the homeowners and renters abreast of goings on.

Are there any neighborhoods that have this kind of set up?

Thanks

Most HOA's do have a monthly or quarterly newsletter with neighborhood updates, and occasional crime stats. But it really depends on your HOA. Give them a call and ask, or look them up online and email them.

It's possible some elderly/retired or stay-at-home-moms keep a mailing list of their own for all the gossip going around. Crime, mischief, trashy reclusive neighbors, etc.

In our neck of SRC, we get together often with neighbors for block parties. We all have a distribution list for email and keep in touch all the time. Nothing formal, we just do it.

Silverlake, Shadow Creek Ranch, Silvercreek, Southgate and Southern Trails all have yahoo groups. You cannot join them unless you provide your real name and address and some are more strict than others about only allowing people who live in the subdivision. Silverlake's group is extremely active and is great if you need recommendations on repairmen, etc. It also communicates bulletins and alerts that are pertinant, like the hail stuff this morning or car accidents people happen to see and traffic alerts in the area. The other groups are a bit less active. There are also yahoo groups that are more pertinant to all of Pearland including a freecycle group (great if you want to recycle stuff or request something you need) and a Pearland Politics group (not tremendously active except around election times).
