I was searching the HAR website and I am interested in property in the Porter-(Riverwalk Subdivision) area. I am surprised by the lack of information on this area. It is in SE Montgomery County just north of Kingwood and Humble. It looks very rural -and judging by the house we are looking at-the lot sizes are incredible and very reasonable. Does anyone know anything about this area, subdivision and the Ney Caney ISD? Riverwalk is zoned to Sortes Mill emlementary but even the New Caney website does not have this school listed-it must be brand new. Any information will help. Thanks!

I drove through there when I was house hunting and yes it is very rural, the neighborhood goes on for miles with narrow roads and scattered houses. Some of the houses are mansions and others are starter homes. My wife didn't like it because I have to travel for work and she didn't want to be in a house set so far away from anyone, but if your looking for acreage then its worth a drive through there. The area outside the neighborhood is very redneck, white-trashy but there is a gate with a guard at the front of the subdivision.

Rather interesting...Thanks for the reply..."The area outside the neighborhood is very redneck, white-trashy"...this really concerns me b/c my family and I dont fit that mold at all....and we dont want to spend the kind of money that this subdivision will require and have to drive past that kind of stuff every day....I have been to the Houston area many times but I have never been north of the Kingwood Exit off of 59.....Therefore I ran a search on a particular home with MSN Live Maps Satellite image and as I scanned over the area I could see the house that I am interested in as well as the surrounding area....I saw mansions and then trailers not to far from them. I was hoping that those were construction company trailers....not that there is anything wrong with Trailers however I dont think most people spend 260 plus to live near a trailer park....If i wanted to live in one I would do just that....I would not spend that much for the privilege....thanks for the information! I hope more people respond...

I live in Kingwood and drive past Riverwalk on the way to the Woodlands. It seems a bit isolated. The lots are indeed large. Here is the cummunty website:

I have relatives that live a few miles north of Porter in New Caney in an older development called Roman Forest (off 59). They've been there for over 25 years and home sites are larger with new homes still being built. My uncle has about 3 acres there but you can find smaller lots too. They love the area and its ruralness but development is slowly heading their way including the extension of the Grand Parkway which should connect within a mile or so of their neighborhood at Hwy. 59. Roman Forest is a very nice area without the trailers..lol..you should check it out also.

Like everywhere, that area is growing a lot. It is a bit more rural though. It's okay, just don't go any farther north of there or you probably will not be happy for long...

I've driven through Roman Forest. Nice, large lots. At first glance, I didn't see local shopping. Where do your relatives shop for groceries, etc? Do they go to Porter?

Roman Forest is nice..big homes on large lots..further back into the neighborhood, the homes are almost estate-sized but many don't know that because they don't explore all the areas. The proximity to Houston is still good and do-able. I think if you went further north toward Cleveland, then you're dealing with more of a commute that can be a pain. One good thing about heading up 59 past Kingwood is that the highway is expanding and traffic actually flows pretty well. |

I'm feeling down. I thought I found an undiscovered utopia. It is close to my daughter in Kingwood, the houses seemed reasonably priced and beautiful. I'm not familiar with the area being from Spicewood outside of Austin; but I didn't think it was rough. I liked having land again because we live on 1 acre now across from a vineyard. I thought with the road construction, etc., the area was being developed. How can I find out more about the area? The POA page didn't have anything negative that I could find. My husband says that there may be a pipeline there as well. Does anyone know anything about that?
