Stop complaining whiners.

Give the government your money and shut up.

And stop complaining about the hotel and do some research. Houston has fewer convention hotel rooms than much smaller cities with less business travelers.

You guys want the city to improve but you dont want the government to help in anyway in the improvements. Get over it whiners. The middle class is dissappearing, the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.

I was plesantly surprised by the improvements that the convention district have undergone in the last few years. More hotel jobs and houston winning more big conventions are plusses for the city.
We gotta spend money to make money. Get over it.

same with the scoreboard. yall wanna host the superbowl and see Janets saggy boob again but you dont want to pay for it. Get over it. janets boobs are worth 8M each. Just shut up and pay for them.

Still no mention of a major theme park in Houston.

We are the whiners because we don't want to pay taxes to host the Super Bowl?
I wouldn't complain if the NFL paid ANY taxes.

NFL punts on paying taxes: Non-profit status raises questions on sweet deal for pro football
Quote:
When you think of non-profit organizations, names like The United Way, The American Red Cross and the Susan B. Komen Foundation come to mind. What might surprise you is that the NFL is also classified as a non-profit and is given tax-exempt status.

Their non-profit status also means they can skip out on paying other taxes because state and local governments usually exempt these organizations from state income and sales tax as well. This was a nice little bonus when the Super Bowl was recently held in Indianapolis because hotels and restaurants did not tax National Football League employees.

And guess what? The NFL actually loses money in a way that would make Enron proud. The NFL paid eight of its top executives around $53 million dollars in 2009. It would seem the NFL goes out of its way to lose money so it can retain its non-profit status and allow the individual teams to be more profitable.

Yes.

I don't even think Denver is a finalist to host and yet they are spending $30M on theirs next year.

That is twice what we are spending just for the pleasure of the fans.

Quote:
"It's not really tied to the Super Bowl bid," said Andy Gorchov, general manager of the stadium management company, the operating arm for Sports Authority Field. "The potential year for a Super Bowl is pretty far down the road. This is more about a need to provide the best fan experience we can today and tomorrow."

Then again the Broncos have way more passionate fans than the Texans.

Houston doesn't deserve the Texans. The city doesn't deserve anything good. Its a miracle it made it that far with so many whiners

The scoreboard they have now is over 10 years old. Those things are like computers, cell phones, & TV's...outdated after 6 months to a year. Not only that those older style LED's were only good for 30,000-50,000 burn hours. I'm sure they have dimmed quite a bit too since then & have lots of missing pixels if you looked close enough.

It will utliize the latest & greatest in high definition energy efficient LED technology for well over 100,000 hours of useable life.

Jerry has been 1 upped yet again.
Its gonna take ALOT more than a scoreboard to 1 up Jerry Jones. Cowboys Stadium is better than Reliant in just about every category.

Not in the two most important ways.

1. Location, location loacation
2. Public transportation.

We saw during the north Texas superbowl that these two were the biggest complaints

Cowboy stadium is bigger and newer, thats about it. It being in the burbs away from all the parties and amenities in Dallas is a severe blow. Not having any public transportation in Arlington is another big one.

Say what you want but the more successful superbowl was not at cowboys stadium.

millions and millions of people visit houston annually. we actually get a lot of people - yes most of them are business but we have 2 of the largest conventions in the world each and every year here in Houston. plus hundreds of other conventions, multiple professional sport teams, and the rodeo (which strangely brings in a lot of people)

one thing that is weird - the current scoreboard in Reliant isn't even HD. they had HD scoreboards 10 years ago.

i am more supportive of this move, as well as glad rodeo and owner are paying for it upfront first, then the city and state shelling out billions to businesses here that have not done much for us in the long run. when the state of texas admits their tax business incentives typically lose the state money you have a problem. events at reliant and conventions do actually bring in cash
