Hi-def scoreboards at Reliant Stadium up for vote - Houston weather, traffic, news | FOX 26 | MyFoxHouston

Quote:
Sources with knowledge of the process told FOX 26 Sports the new hi-def LED screens will cost about $16 million, and would be installed where the current scoreboards are located at Reliant Stadium in time for the 2013 NFL season.

If the proposal is approved the Texans and the Rodeo, primary tenants at Reliant Park, would cover the costs of the new video display screens on an interim basis.

Both will eventually be reimbursed by Reliant Stadium's repair and replacement funds.

Those funds, which come from hotel, motel and rental car taxes, are presently being used to pay off some of the bonds at Reliant Park.

Your two main tenants are a team with the longest sellout streak in Houston sports history (10+ years) and a rodeo that drew 2.2 mil visitors last year... I'd say the boom they provide the local economy justifies "keeping up with the Joneses."

This is a pre-requisitie for another Super Bowl in Houston. This is money mostly from visitors, I've been overcharged enough when I stay in SF. The Rockets has the biggest TV in the NBA, why not Texans?!?!?!? I have to say if the Texans wasn't winning, I don't think this would slide by.

It's natural to think bigger is always better, but having been to a game in Cowboys Stadium, where the screen is nearly 60 yards wide, I have to wonder if 25% larger is necessarily a good thing. The Cowboys' screen is amazing, so good that I would often find myself watching the screen instead of the field. It's nice to have to screen there for replays and such but do you really want it to be so big that you're watching the screen most of the time?

The problem happens when the Hotel tax doesn't throw off enough money. That's when the county commissioners stick their hands in the tollroad cookie jar.

I am not being screwed. By life won't be complete without an updated screen. I don't watch a stake TV at hone why would I want to watch a stale TV at reliant? It's imperative that we get this. I can't live without it.
