I don't think it will quite get that high. It could come close. It could be where DC is at now. DC use to be cheap. Same with Miami. Now.....

It already is getting that high in some areas. You just get a lot more space in Houston.

The problem with Houston, is that it is a less desirable place to live for most folks than DC, Chicago, LA, New York, Seattle, Miami, San Francisco, Portland, St. Louis, Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Nashville, and so on.... I'd put it at about the level of Memphis, though Memphis is cooler because of its musical history. So when you come here, and you see how high the rents are to live in the precious "core" you really aren't flabbergasted at the price, you're flabbergasted that the price is so high in Houston. Unlike all the other cities I've mentioned, Houston doesn't have much of the "it" factor that those other cities have. This may be because we're all just a bunch of durned workin' fools who the whole rest of America oughta learn from, but it doesn't make for an attractive place to live. Us "carpetbaggers" pay high rents here resentfully because of where we are--not the price.

You lost all credibilty when you put those cities in the list.

Hmmmm... I'll happily admit that Houston doesn't have the appeal of New York or San Francisco, but Charlotte? Nashville? St. Louis? Come on. Memphis? You've got to be kidding. I shouldn't need to point out our restaurants, theaters, museums and parks that put us in a totally different class. Maybe you haven't explored enough.

While I agree that Houston offers more than the cities you mentioned, I believe the statement was meant as a general perception that folks would much rather live in those cities. In my friend/family circle, Austin and Portland get a much better rep for whatever reason than Houston. That will surely change over time.

This is a joke right? I'd rather live under a bridge in the Houston area than in Portland or Memphis.

Job and population growth increases rents.

This is great news for real estate investors.
