On a side note, during the Christmas season, Caterpillar dresses up the big machinery off 290 - like huge Tonka toys with huge red bows. Cute.
Thanks so much! What a fun idea about the machinery. Hope we get to check to out next year!

How about the Champions Forest area? Would you recommend that for a decent commute time and a desirable location for a family?

The Champions Forest area is nice and family friendly, too. The commute wouldn't be too bad but there is no quick and direct freeway link. I've made the drive up there many times for kiddos' music and horseback riding lessons. It takes me 20 minutes to get there off-peak but I count on at least half an hour at rush hour. I am about three miles closer to Champions than the CAT offices would be.

You can get a lot of house for the money in Champions, but the commute will be zig-zaggy. On a positive, it's going to be far better than Kingwood!

Fairfield and Bridgeland (also Towne Lake, Coles Crossing) are nice newer MPCs but the commute on 290 outside the beltway, especially west of Hwy6, is brutal. The 20 mile commute would easily take longer than half an hour most days. The freeway is currently being widened, hopefully the commute will improve after it is completed.

The CAT Christmas display is so fun, I love that they do that every year! Reminds me of my kids oohing and aahing every time we drove by when they were little.

*Spring Branch is also not too far but $400K won't get you into a nice home, neighborhood, or schools there.

Good area I would recommend it to a family. There is a lot of shopping nearby. FM1960 would get your husband to 290 and would avoid tolls!

NO, do not do this. DO NOT go west on FM1960 all the way to 290 then back east to CAT offices at Tidwell. Take Fairbanks N. Houston or another north/south surface street south of the beltway. You need never pay a toll going from Champions to CAT.

That's like taking 3 left turns to turn right. Not a smart commute at all.

Also Bingle/ North Houston-Rosslyn goes directly between CAT on 290 and Champions Forest Blvd just north of the beltway. That would be a 10 mile or so commute to FM1960, probably 30 min at peak times. There are several north/south routes between the two places. But be sure to really check out the schools in the area. Most are good, but some can be a bit lacking.

I'm glad, for your husband's sake, people have talked you out of Kingwood. Sure, Kingwood is a great MPC, but that would be a suicide run if he works normal hours.

From Champions it's a short distance on 1960 to Hollister which is now a straight shot to the beltway. My husband works near Clay Rd and the beltway and it takes him about 20 mins in the a.m. 25-40 in the evening depending on what time he leaves. I think this is a great area to live, all the shopping and restaurants I need without having to drive more than a couple of miles. I will leave it up to others to tell you about the school districts. It's been a long time since I had a child in school!
