I've got a shot at a job just east of Houston and I'm trying to look at places, but of course none of the apartment sites really say much about the areas, and there are so many out there that it's hard to narrow it down. Trying to keep it down around 1000 a month. I know there are condos/townhomes in this price range too, I've seen a couple, but I don't know the areas very well. I've been told by a couple of people to stay north of I-10, not sure what that's all about.

Just outside of Baytown is Mt. Belvieu and it is not a bad area. Might even consider renting in Deer Park or La Porte and making the short trip over the Fred Hartman Bridge depending on where in Baytown.

Baytown itself has sketchy areas but also areas that seem just fine, if nothing special. There are one or two nice newer apartment complexes there that you should probably check out, though I've heard they are very well occupied.

Thanks. I've also been taking a look at the Pasadena area, since it looks like Houston is a little less plentiful on internet bandwidth than Austin is. I'm hoping to get to keep the speeds I currently have (300 Mbps), but it looks like that might not happen, since even in Pasadena where AT&T says they have gigabit service, it's not available in any of the complexes I have bounced off of their website. More important is the quality of the area, I suppose, so I'll look a little harder at the areas mentioned above
