I currently live in Kansas but have a job offer near Beltway 8 and Westheimer. I am married with three young children and would like to live in a nice suburban community with good schools. Katy and Sugarland seem to come up most frequently as options. Some folks have told me that the commute to Katy can be difficult along I-10. Any suggestions between these two options or other suggestions? Memorial looks like a great option commute-wise but the housing seems a little out of our price range. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

you can drive down westheimer or westpark tollway from katy.
also, once the I10 construction is completed to beltway 8 in the upcoming few months the traffic for you will be greatly lessened.

a lot of the traffic for you will hinge on time of day you make the drive also...

welcome,
I live near westheimer/beltway 8, lots of things to do, places to eat in the area...

I live in Katy west of 99 and I work near Beltway 8 and Westheimer and currently take the Westpark Tollway in (if I can leave the house around 6, the drive is 23 minutes start to stop.). If it's after 6:15 I take 1093 all the way in (which becomes Westheimer). That is about a 35 minute drive.

No one has told you that the commute to/fom Sugarland can be difficult on 59? Yikes! It's horrible!

Have you looked at Fleetwood and Barkers Landing in West West Memorial? 77079. Much more manageable price wise.

You'd probably have a better chance of finding something in your price range in Katy rather than Sugarland. Cinco Ranch is nice and there is alot of new communities popping up all over Katy.

No matter what you do you're not getting away from that traffic. Westpark toll road is probably your best bet. I'd steer clear of I-10 until that construction is completed.

I don't think there's a bad choice there. I live in Sugar Land and I love it here, but I think Katy would be a little easier on you for commute and housing price. Katy and S.L. have different looks and feel to them though, so I'd suggest giving both a look.

Sugar land is very nice you could always take US 59 heading North and take the beltway to Westheimer it is very close about a 20 min drive. However you could also check out Stafford or Meadows place also check out Missouri city a very nice neighborhood called lakes of brightwater is very nice and taxes are less in missouri city than sugar land. If your kids are zoned to Dulles Elementary (also Dulles Middle and High) those are very good schools all next to eachother on Dulles Ave (off of Hwy 90). Katy is messy with I 10 still in construction its horrible, you also need to take in consideration traffic when you are driving out for non work commutes. Hope this helps.
