The Woodlands has more natural beauty with the pine trees but Sugar Land is quite nice, too. As EasilyAmused mentioned, the schools in Sugar Land are excellent (or at least, most of them are...check GreatSchools.net for test scores and parent reviews). Sugar Land was named one of the safest cities in America.

The new Whole Foods Market in Sugar Land isn't quite as fabulous as the headquarters one in Austin but it is quite nice.

And my impression is that the trip from Sugar Land to Austin might be easier than the trip from The Woodlands, in case you still have friends to visit in Austin.

One weekend my family drove from Sugar Land to The Woodlands just to see it and it took forever...my children were miserable and they are usually entertained just fine with a DVD during car trips. I couldn't imagine doing it very often, certainly not every work day.

10 years ago the drive alone was brutal in itself. Nowadays gas is $3.50/gal.

Just do everyone a favor and live close to work.

I'd say it's time to switch everyone back to horses and buggies, except that then nobody would be able to afford hay for the horses.

And these 70+ mile roundtrips from one edge of the metro area to the other for work would certainly be out of the question...
