I'm either around Clear Lake or the Golden Triangle every day. Mont Belvieu is the best choice. One of my family members lived in Mont Belvieu and commuted to Port Arthur. If you like a realllly slow pace and can tolerate just one minimally stocked grocery store, then perhaps Winnie or Anahuac. Dayton would be better than Winnie, but not nearly as nice as Mont Belvieu.

Mont Belvieu is more like a bedroom suburb than a small freestanding town.

I'm in the Triangle right now as I type, and am looking forward to leaving.

Mount Beliveu is going to give the more modern suburbia HOA neighborhoods. Dayton is also getting many of the development neighborhoods and is no longer the sleepy town of past. There are still many areas in the area though that you can find a home that is going to be in a decent school area that is not in the cookie cutter neighborhoods, if that is your thing. If you choose to live closer that the midway point of Mount Belvieu, I would strongly suggest more towards HWY 90 than I10. Exxon traffic in Baytown on I10 will be TERRIBLE if you have to travel during the peak traffic hours. If you are traveling during non peak hours, the Cove area has nice homes and is a beautiful area.

Mont Belvieu is by far the best choice. The wife WILL still have the shorter commute, at least in terms of time/duration. There is not much between MB and Beaumont. Because of that, it's a very pleasant and easy drive to Beaumont as long as the weather is good enough. The commute from MB to Houston will have so much more traffic. I'd not live further away for my own sanity.

River Ranch Estates between Dayton and Mont Belvieu looks interesting - it appears to have been "COMING SOON" for a long time so I have no idea how long it will take.

Newport near Crosby is another option...but would be a longer drive to Beaumont.

Look near Sour Lake, Texas for homes that are not too far from US 90 - an easy drive to Beaumont and a longer drive to Houston.

There should also be some homes in the East Chambers and Hamshire-Fannett school districts that would be an easy drive to Beaumont, but a long drive to Houston. Not many "suburbs" there but you could make it work. This is also a place that has had hurricane damage.

Good luck.

Ha. This is true. There isn't much between the two, Mont Belvieu would be your best bet. I guess Winnie. But meh...
