Traffic depends upon where one lives/works and when one chooses to commute; consider where are major employers in region and where do workaholics choose to reside

Ironically, many of shortest commutes in world (among the high-income, productive crowd) are in SiliconValley and LA, where many live in suburban areas nr their suburban offices...and have brilliant, yr-round weather, so none of Winter slowdowns of NYC or Chic

And even in NYC/Chic, many financial guys drive in from upscale suburbs 25-40mis away, arriving <<7AM in Midtown or Loop and on drive home are similarly on Bluetooth with other time zones, so commute times are a productive, rather comfortable (in own new Mercedes S-Class) <60mins each way

I GUESS THE FORBES CLOWNS NEVER SAT IN NON MOVING TRAFFIC ON i-80 FOR THE NORMAL 3-5 HOURS? And one of the worst things about chicago is their stupidity on trucks must be in right lanes only, just to block traffic getting on and off the over priced toll road. And yes, I have driven in all 3 cities at rush hour, before rush hour and after rush hour. Believe me, chicago rush hours are anything but moving!!!

The Forbes clowns haven't been to a lot of these places or experienced firsthand the things they make these rankings about. They're in an office in NYC, gathering and extrapolating abstract statistics and forming arbitrary lists. Same with the Men's Health "fattest cities" thing.

Sorry, cannot comment right now. Forbes ranked Chicago as most stressed out city. Just finished my 5th espresso and am trying the breathing exercises to calm down, Hope I don't need to hit the Zoloft again.

Yeah, and they ranked Austin the least stressful city. I guess they've never been through rush hour there.

Houston actually has a fairly decent freeway infrastructure compared to most cities of similar sizes. A lot of federal dollars has been pumped into the region in the last 20 years courtesy of Tom Delay and other local folks--one of the good things he did. Now the street infrastructure is a different story. Lots of improvement needed there.

I-10 has improved drastically since they finished the construction. It's probably made Katy one of the more desirable suburbs if you commute to the Galleria or Downtown.

BTW, I noticed that TranStar has added weather radar to their traffic map.

Houston TranStar Real-Time Traffic Map

Very helpful indeed!

I just got back from Houston and I live in the Chicago area. I'd take Chicago driving any day. The traffic may be worse during construction, but I think Chicago's got better drivers.
