Hello All:

Thanks for your responses. I do not have a job there yet but assume that I would be working in the downtown area. Also, I would rent before buying (just to make sure I find the right neighborhood first). So I would want to pay no more than $900 for an apartment. Can anyone tell me how are the day care programs & cost? as well as after school programs & cost? Thanks so much for all your help.

How do you like it so far? How are the summers? I hear they are brutal

You were asking about the summers. The summers are indeed brutal, just like everywhere in the South. Fortunately, there are frequent thunderstorms to provide some variety in the summer. You'll love mid October through April, though, when temperatures are mild and sometimes cool, with very few cold days. The landscape stays green even during the winter unless there's a hard freeze, and the palm, oak, and pine trees make it seem very cheery compared with the cold, gray north.

Based on your preferences, I would definitely suggest Pearland.

I guess they are brutal. I've lived in Texas all my life, 18 in Houston and 4 near Austin, and it's hot. You just get use to it to put it bluntly. You learn what activities not to do during certain times of the day and you can pretty much plan on not wearing long sleeves for a majority of the year. Unless it cold, it's going to be humid; but humidity is good for the ole skin though.
Hello Houston:

Family of 5 (three children/two adults) looking to move to Houston. What neighborhoods are close to downtown Houston? Currently live in NY, but originally from CA. Looking for safe neighborhood with decent schools.

Been doing a lot of research online and plan to make a visit in Oct 2008. Where should I start? Thanks for any feedback.
River Oaks, Bellaire, Memorial, Briargrove, West U, Tanglewood
