Is ragweed pollen a problem in the FALL - generally it's August-September in most places...same in Houston? How bad is it?

Your not experiencing rag weed pollen now, what we have going on is tree pollen and not just our own local trees. The winds that be are blowing from the Northwest and bringing pollen loaded winds to our area. I don't know of any allergy meds that alleviate tree pollen.

I'm not usually bothered with allergies - usually but when I feel my head getting all gunked up I take alka seltzer cold plus and feel much better.

The trick of eating local honey to immune your system to local pollens will not work for the tree pollen.

Good Luck!

Yes, it's pretty god-awful here, more like September-October though. However, what I've read is that if you are coming from a different part of the country, you will not experience the side effects here for a few years.

I finally caved last year and bought a neti pot. It was freaky at first, took me about an hour to get up the guts to do it, but I really liked it because it cleared me out so well and didn't leave me feeling funky like meds do.

Yes, the ragweed is a problem here in the fall. Texas and allergies go hand in hand.

12.5 mg doxylamine succinate, taken with nothing else, once daily before bedtime during that season works well for me. Cheap generic OTC.

I have year-round allergies that I developed as an adult (season makes no difference). Allergic to every tree, grass, weed that we have here plus other environmental things. Leaving Houston wouldn't make a difference except in the environmental allergens - that would probably improve.

I had allergy problems growing up in the midwest. I didnt think it was too bad in Houston, although in spring and fall I would be a sinus mess for a week when the weeds changed.

It's this little pot that you fill with warm distilled water and you clean out your sinuses with it. It's like a bath for your nasal cavity. I don't know how the heck it works like it does, but it's genius. You tip your head a bit and let it run in one nostril and out the other. Initially it felt weird, then it was just...fine. However, it was afterward that sold me on it. I was snot-free (beg your pardon for the, uh, graphics there LOL) for hours without any meds. I really was astonished. Now, I am not like my husband, who has to take a Zyrtec AND some other pill every single day. I just get funky when it's allergy season, tree pollen in spring just kills me. It gets worse as I get older.

Ragweed season now, in October.

Anyone suffering? Always curious how well the shots actually work, for those who do.
