Hi all,
Trying to make a decision on where to move...possibilities so far are Houston and San Antonio.
I have some questions, would appreciate any help:

1-Does Houston (or any cities right outside of Houston) have lakefront properties? (I'm willing to spend up to 1.5M)

2-Are there areas that don't get as much hurricanes and smog?

3-How cold does it get and is it really humid all year around?

Thanks!

Try Bentwater. It's just North of Conroe.
Otherwise I'd head for Horshoe Bay in Marble Falls. NOrth of San Antonio and West of Austin.

We don't really have "smog." Ozone Warning in the City yes. Very mild winters in Central and SE Texas. You won't get Hurricanes in Lake Country. You might get the after affect winds though

1. Depends on what you qualify as a lake. Conroe and Livingston are probably what you are looking for.
2. No, hurricanes can cover the entire state
3. It can get down to the 30s for a few days in the winter. It is humid for probably 6 or 7 months out of the year.

Here is a lake front house in Conroe in your price range: 12355 Tramonto Dr, Conroe, TX 77304

Bentwater: http://search.har.com/engine/dispSea...4&backButton=Y

Conroe is about 1.5 hours from Houston though. There is Lake Houston closer to town but its not really a lake so much as an extension of the Gulf.

There are waterfront properties both on Clear Lake and Taylor Lake. Properties directly on the Lakes or lagoon. We enjoy boating all year around and all the water sports that go along with it. Check out Seabrook Island right on Taylor Lake...I know of at least 4 or 5 gorgeous homes in our area that sit right on the lake that are in your price range...One is directly across the lagoon from me...come on down and see for yourself! DM me if you'd like any more info!
Added: Both Taylor Lake and ClearLake lead out to Galveston Bay, so you are not restricted to just the lake for boating.

If you really want to stay right in Houston and be on the water you might consider Royal Shores in Kingwood.

I agree with everything EasilyAmused said. But I got the idea the OP was looking at raw land....maybe not.

Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston are the 2 big ones that are purely fresh water. And Conroe's Bentwater and Livingston's Cape Royale are the premier places to live. I suspect you are from a high cost area. For that money you mentioned you can buy the most expensive home and get change back. I know of a few over a million but not aware of anything a mill and a half.

Lake Livingston is less costly because it is more countryish. At 93,000 acres you can have 93,000 boats out there and each boat have it's own acre. Lake Conroe is only 21,000 acres and gets very crowded to the point where you cant get up any speed on weekends. Fishing may be a tad better on Conroe. I am biased towards Livingston because I have land on it and I say it is far more beautiful then Conroe. Conroe you will be closer to everything and have more choices but will be farther from Houston then Livingston. We are just a quick 15 minute ride to the town of Livingston which has plenty of nice restaurants and shopping.

Come back and let us know what you do !
