I lived in NorCal for a few years. Someone once asked me if Texas had daylight savings time.

There is almost zero Italian influence here vs the NE. What would you expect?
I also think you'll be hard pressed to find folks who are ostentatious enough to really care as much as you do.
Btw- I do know what falafel and tabouli are, and I live outside the beltway. And kofta. So does that make me educated?

Exactly what I was about to chime in and say. The real test here is Mexican and BBQ dish ingredients.

By World Class city I was also meaning a destination city and most foreigners around the world would agree that in the US only NY, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, DC and Miami would fall in that category. Maybe Boston.

Sorry, I just don't consider Miami in the same class of those. Maybe as a tourist, but it does have a bad reputation for its crime. Once you've been there as a tourist, about all its good for as a return destination is if you're looking for a good place to get a cruise from... I'd go back to any of those other cities before visiting Miami to "see Miami."

Oh, sorry I didn't have the camera with me for my little walk. I actually saw a decent number of people walking around on Main in Midtown. Nothing that would satisfy some people but given the weather it was interesting to see.

Easily the top destination for tourists from Europe and South America. Highest concentration of foreign banks of any US city. Headquarter of Latin America Operations for most companies. Enough said.

That was just an exemple. You get the point. There is zero Italian influence in Seattle and Portland too for that matter but I bet the awareness is on another level.
