But bearish for our wallets. I hope you're wrong.

I worked at Schlumberger / 6 month contract then immediately at Jacobs ESCG [10 month NASA contract] then got laid off August 15th 2008 and couldn't get a job in 6 months so I packed up and moved to Parent's house in Chicago. Houston Job market just dried up like after Oct 15th 2008.

Luckily, The Greater Houston Partnership raised $40M during the last boom and is using to attract new companies and industries to the region. Its unprecedented for a city to raise that much private money so quickly and its paid off already.

I hope they are attracting other industries besides oil and gas. I still believe we need to diversify a little more.

if oil goes above $100/barel...then things are going to get REAL dry...people are already cuting down their expenses...the price of gas around $5 a galon...I just don't see any good side of it.

Check Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed I checked it and there are jobs there Houston has got one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. i am thinking of moving to Houston soon to apply my refrigeration skills and indeed.com always has jobs available in the Houston Metro area. Good Luck.

Smile Houston is HIRING

Yes there are a ton of jobs here. We have lost like 20,000 jobs in the last year but before that we were adding about 50,000 a year so if you look at the last 5 years job growth it is phenominal. With oil prices on the rise the outlook is good here. I think the worst is over and it is all going to be good from here on out.

You live in Houston and you can't see any good side to expensive oil?

I have no problem with 100 dollars a barrel. Credit is going to be a Pain in Arse to get again though.

You shouldn't either. Prices go that level and jobs open up again. More drilling, more pumping, more pipe manufacturing, etc.
