I am looking at arranging a deal with an insurance company to be able to guarantee home buyers against job loss. Do people on this forum feel that this would be viewed as a strong benefit and worth the cost to me in an effort to stand out from the crowd? I have noticed that buyers I have been working with lately have been rather torn with the current economic climate and I would like to be able to alievate some of the concern. However, if it would not make a difference for people I don't want to bother dealing with the Texas insurance commission.

Sounds like a great marketing tool.

I think job loss insurance might help some people feel less anxious and more comfortable making a major financial commitment.

great marketing tool ..... and you could probably limit it to 2 years, 3 years or so..... i think that the general consensus is that things will be pretty much turned around by that point .... not back to what they were before this mess, but at least more stable........

Is there a cost to the would-be homeowner, or exactly how is the insurance paid for?

That's the kickker, travelguy. I'm sure the homeowner pays for the insurance and the cost would probably be in proportion to the homeowner's line of work. I've seen car dealerships advertise that they'll make the payment on new cars if the owner losses his/her job; I presume that the owner pays for that "insurance", as well.

Many credit card companies have been offering this insurance for a long time. While I've never wanted it for small credit card balances, it might be worthwhile considering for large purchases.

My plan was to pay for the insurance out of my commissions at the closing. I truly want my clients to feel comfortable with their purchase and I want to provide a level of value that others cannot match. As I am sick of competing with agents that are little more than hucksters.
