Just saw a listing on HAR and it stated a home was built in 1996 in Summerwood. We were house hunting the first time around in 01 and I am finding it hard to believe that Summerwood has been around for 14 years already. I knew it started out before Eagle Springs but it just did not seem like it had been around 5 years longer. Anybody know?? Not saying there is no way but it just does not seem that old down there.

Perhaps it had a different name? I live in Oakhurst which started up in 2001 but there is a small section in the back of houses from the mid-90s that were part of a previous failed development that Oakhurst bought out and expanded.

I'm pretty sure that it opened in 95 or 96. They have rebuilt the entry monuments several times over the years to accommodate various beltway expansions and reconfigurations of the intersection there.
It was under way for several years before Lake Houston Parkway was completed out the back to 1960. Newland Communities bought Summerwood at some point after it was started, they aren't the original developer.

Thanx! I went thru all the listings on Har and the oldest I saw was 96. Just did not know it had been around since then. Not even sure where the older homes are located in there. Ya learn something new every day. Stuff is now just coming to them so I hate to thnk of what it was like 14 yrs ago back when Atascocita was not even developed all that much.

My family and I are moving to the Houston area and are trying to decide on Summerwood or Kingwood. Summerwood would be closer to my job at San Jacinto College North Campus, but I know very little about the area. Everybody seems to recommend Kingwood to me, but it is more of a commute. Can any of you tell me a little about Summerwood? What's it like? How's it better/worse than Kingwood? Shopping? Schools? Surrounding area? Does it seem to be growing? If so, for better or worse? In short, what are the pros and cons to living in Summerwood for a family of four? I have two young children, ages 4 and 2. My wife is a stay-at-home mom, so we're living on a tight budget for a while. Is it more expensive to live in Summerwood? Any info would be very helpful.
