So we were at a dinner party a couple of months back and a couple of native Hustonians/Houstonites/Houstonmajigs told us that BBQ up here in Austin doesn't hold a candle to the BBQ in Houston. So we have a short trip planned to the Houston area (Seabrook) and want to taste it for ourselves. Can anyone recommend a BBQ restaurant in the Seabook area (or within a half an hour) that will knock our socks off? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

I've lived in Austin and I've lived in Houston and those people were exaggerating. I tried Goode Company for the first time and I didn't care for it at all, but I favor County Line so my bias is clear.

My husband likes Red River BBQ in League City, and the reviews of the place are glowing so lots of people agree with him.

I'm a big fan of County Line myself (having been waitstaff there at 19), Topaz. I just love it.

I guess the question I would ask the OP is, what do you like? Brisket? Pork Ribs? Beef Ribs? Sausage? Turkey? Chicken? Some operations are better than others for certain things.

Well we really like pork ribs, sausage, brisket. Our favorite place here is the salt lick and I have been underwhelmed by county line the last couple of times I've been.

This place is pretty good, 15 minutes from Seabrook.

Star Fire Grill, Start, Fire, Restaurent, Grill, Steaks, Burgers, Fajitas, Sea Food, mesquite grilling, BBQ

They have good sausage, brisket, tuna steak and a good pork tenderloin sandwich. Pretty intense on the mesquite smoke.

Honestly can't say any BBQ in Houston has knocked my socks off. People tell me Fort Worth is where it's really at.

IMHO the best places for brisket and sausage is The Swinging Door in Richmond or Dozier's Grocery/BBQ off of 359. As for Seabrook, dang, I dunno. Maybe ShelbyGirl can help you out--she is pretty in-the-know with good eateries in that area.

I lived in Alvin for a few years, and Joe's on Highway 6 is a good enough reason for me to revisit the town every now and then.

There are two places I go for BBQ in Seabrook, but I wouldn't say either is the greatest BBQ I've ever had... but both are solid.

The first is Dave's Smokehouse on Kirby just off of Nasa Rd 1. It's connected to the Bay Area Meat Market, and has good brisket and link. Well priced for lunch with brisket/link sandwiches around $5 and combo plates around $7-10.

The other place is T-Bone-Toms which is on 146 by the Kemah Boardwalk. They also have lots of other good food (seafood, steaks, burgers, chicken-fried steak, etc) so it's good if you're with a group that likes different things. I'm a big fan of this resturant as it is one of the best values in the boardwalk area.
