Doesn't get more ''authentic'' than the grittiest parts of southeast side/Pasadena/South Houston, as far as the south half of town goes anyway. From just outside the beltway all the way up to downtown. Grab a whole chicken (Monterrey pollo asado al carbon) right off the side of the road, along with some flowers & Mexican candy for the wife, and bring your Spanish, too. You'd swear you've almost stepped into another country sometimes. Sometimes it's worth the 10-15 minute drive from Clear Lake. But Vic's inside the Chevron is pretty authentic as far as tacos & tortas go.
