I think you're meaning to say it will hurt Houston's image, which it won't.
I thought Continental renewed their lease and they still have the blue flood lights?

It would've been a loss either way. Imagine if US Airways and United did merge, they would become a stronger airlines, and larger too, leaving Continental as the odd man out.

Continental is fantastic, but it was going into large deficits on an annual basis, it's better for them to survive and merge than go into bankruptcy and face off extinction. Which would've made Houston look much more terrible on the news than a merger.

If United and US Airways had merged, they'd fail in a couple of years and Continental would just buy the best assets.

US Airways has possibly the worst costumer service out of any airlines. Reported not answering 50% of their customer service calls... says a lot right there.

The company's going to Chicago, but Jeff Smisek is still going to be living in Houston.

Yep. He will be commuting every week up there. I imagine he will buy some sort of property in Chicago.

Im not talking about Houstons image.

I mean that jobs will be leaving Houston because of this merger. Hence the reason I made that statement.

Is it going to be drastic for Houston? Of course not. But when one of your fortune 500 companies leaves your city and takes hundreds if not thousands of jobs (the real number isnt known yet), it does hurt a bit.

Yeah and since he's on the Board of Directors for National Oilwell Varco, he has no other choice!
