If Houston had hired you, what would you have advised?

I keep hearing "HOUSTON SHOULDA DONE SOMETHING! HOUSTON SHOULDA DONE SOMETHING!" but "something" has yet to be defined here.

I know it's IAH vs. O' Hare
Houston vs. Chicago
The outcome was pretty obvious.

I dont know that for sure. There is no way to know, but it could have happened.

I think Houston was being realistic. With O'Hare, Boeing, AAR, all the other aeronautical companies, Western Michigan University 150 miles away etc., Houston never had a chance. Oh, and Chicago being Chicago of course.

It has little to do with what Houston did, it was in the timeframe that they did it. Chicago has been wining and dining these guys behind the scenes for months. Houston just tried doing it the last couple of weeks.

What Houston should have done is get involved sooner. Continental has an amazing (one of the best) opps and logistics center. They should have pushed that sooner.

It hard to be such a later comer to the game when youre already the underdog.

But you see, places like Houston are use to companies just coming there because they want to. A lot of Sun-Belt cities are like that, but especially the Texas ones. Chicago has to fight for these companies.

Well, obviously that strategy backfired on them this time. In the future, sunbelt cities won't be able to rest on their laurels all the time. I'd imagine if United were to buy out Delta, you bet your bottom dollar that the Atlanta powers-that-be wouldn't have taken that lying down. Or the powers that be in the DFW area if UA were looking at AA for that matter.

It's also how Houston is. The Mayor said today on ABC 13 that the fight still isn't over for the HQ, and that they will try until everything is final, but I don't know what they can do.

She obviously must think were stupid or something.

Houston lost this; it's time we begin our healing stage and move on. This will hopefully be a less for the city of Houston to start acting more aggressive and being more aware.

It's better to at least make some effort than none at all. We should prepare for the worst case scenario (losing the HQ), but try anyway to make things change (convince the company to put HQ in Houston and maybe convince ExpressJet to move to Chicago in exchange), then only end when it is absolutely certain.
