"Total crime was highest in Humble, Missouri City, Conroe and Baytown, which all had rates similar to the city of Houston. Lowest for total crime were Friendswood and Sugar Land. In the middle were Katy, Pasadena, Pearland and The Woodlands"

Interesting.

Yet here is MoCity's website:

Police Department - City of Missouri City, Texas (http://www.missouricitytx.gov/Government/Police-Department - broken link)

I'd be interested to know the numbers and the breakdowns (petty larceny, murder, car theft, assault, domestic violence, etc...). Is home invasion considered violent crime? Because I've been reading way too many reports about that happening in Sugar Land at a local mom's board while I haven't read half as many incidences of that in Mo City.

This is reminding of me Topaz's post the other day about SL sweeping crime reports under the rug. Makes me go hmmmm....about what's going on right in my back yard.

Being real familiar with Missouri City from growing up in that vicinity (I grew up in nearby Quail Run from '84 to '95), I can say that there is a wide disparity in the socioeconomic levels, crime, and police protection within the city. The northern areas of MC (Hunter's Glen, Fonmeadow, MC's part of 5th St.) are the higher-crime areas with what I consider very minimal police protection. Their police dept. also for whatever reason is as nearly visible and pro-active as Sugar Land's. SLPD is rolling in black-and-white Tahoes, and MCPD is nowhere to be seen. What's also odd about MC is that their "public safety center" (or whatever its called) is on the far west end of the city, damn near the SL-MC line on Dulles. That area also happens to be a relatively well-off area (Brightwater, Lexington Colony?, etc.)

I NEVER see MC police in north Missouri City. (Hwy 90 and Texas Pkwy. area) I can't ever recall seeing an MCPD car north of Hwy 90 in MC jurisdiction and I'm in the area very often. I was driving south on Texas Pkwy once coming back from picking up my mail (I/my dad still maintain an MC PO Box) and I noticed a fleet of MCPD cars lights on all responding from the south, which would indicate to me there's no/few officers covering the north.

That sounds pretty accurate although I was on TX Pkwy to 90 quite a few times in the last month and I've always encountered police cars along the pkwy. We are in Quail Valley (around Robinson/El Dorado) and we see police patrolling on a pretty regular basis. I've always attributed that to Owens & former police chief living here. I check the crime reports for this area pretty regularly and the extent of crime around here seems to be vandalism to mailboxes (not that I've seen though).

Like the other poster mentioned, Missouri City near the Houston border (not the 77459 zip, the other one) is a lower socio-economic area and probably more transient than the area you're in. I doubt they are getting on the internet and posting what's going on... a break-in is probably just another semi-normal day in their area.

In Sugar Land on the other hand, there isn't really a "bad" area anywhere. Most areas are very internet-connected and aware of things, especially if something's out of place. I do think the newly-annexed neighborhood of RiverPark has been having several crime problems though -- in addition to being next to a very large commercial center (the reason they were annexed), the schools they're zoned to aren't very good (toward Rosenberg) so the home prices aren't going to be like, say, First Colony or Avalon for sure.

I do too, I was mainly referring to MC north of Hwy 90.

77489, I guess is the one you are talking about. From what I can recall growing up in Quail Run in nearby Houston (we had a MC mailing address because we were so close), we had a 77459 zip code, but apparently they redrew them.
