It will be very nice if this happens:

Flanked by several antique shops, the city-owned market is currently home to a senior citizens center, Floyd's Flowers and the Cabell County Tailgate Farmer's Market, which will feature 18 vendors from West Virginia and Ohio this season. The latter two tenants operate late spring through October. Mayor Steve Williams says he would like to see the facility improved and expanded to replicate the Capitol Market in Charleston.

"I want to build a more viable commercial district in the Central City area," Williams said. "With its access to the interstate and with the antique shops that are there now, it's ripe to take it to the next level of opportunity.

West End underpass to receive new mural - The Herald Dispatch

Quote:
HUNTINGTON -- The 14th Street West underpass will get a facelift beginning next week as part of an effort to revitalize Old Central City.

A new mural on the underpass will pay homage to Duncan Box and Lumber and the J Taylor Auto Museum, two mainstays of the small commercial district.

The project has been in the works for about two years, said Joanna Sexton, owner of Hattie and Nan's, an antique shop on 14th Street West and project manager for the Old Central City Association.

If they can make the Central City Market a little more substantial and more of a destination, that may just be the catalyst that Central City needs. Being so close to the interstate does give it a ton of potential.

It appears that this isn't the only project that the mayor has in mind for the West End. The goal is to redevelop the area by first taking care of some of the crime with a combination of code enforcement and law enforcement. This was something put that Wolfe had actually wanted to implement. Williams has decided to add improving economic activity to the area, even outside of Central City. One hope is that the Heartland Intermodal Gateway will help as well. The West End residents are understandably skeptical but I'm optimistic.

They are opening bids to begin the process of choosing someone to run the Central City Market. They hope to have the new arrangement in place by Jan. 1, 2014. It sounds like they are really looking to build up Central City the way it should be.
