Congratulations! We moved here from Washington DC area in July and so far so good. The schools offer the kids many opportunities we didn't have even outside DC - clubs in elementary school, lots of local resources.

I chose Madison for the schools - test scores, SATs, AP courses offered in high school. I have one at Heritage Elementary and one at Liberty. Heritage has been a great experience for us. Liberty is okay but our child was unable to get courses she wanted due to large enrollment and the type of block schedule they use here. Rumor has it we are getting a new elementary school and there are talks of a middle and/or hs or two coming. There is crowding in the middle school, primarily because of the housing growth in Madison and the excellent reputation of our hs - Bob Jones.

Default Elementary Schools

We are moving from California to Madison in June. We purchased a home in StoneCrest right off of County Line and our son will be going to Columbia Elementary. I have done alot of research and spoke to a teacher and I am excited we will be moving to such a great school district and a great neighborhood. It was important to us that there were kids in the area. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Default Schools

Madison City schools and Grissom (Hsv City) seem to get all the talk, but don't forget about Madison County Schools.

National rankings and scores do not always give the full picture. Much of what students learn in school comes down to what the students and parents put into the school years. No school has 100% "good" or 100% "bad" teachers and administrators -- and the same for students with bad habits.

We moved from out of state 2 years ago, and have been pleased with the elementary and middle schools feeding into Sparkman High. Combined, Sparkman High and the Sparkman 9th Grade School have about 2,200 students.

Depending on where you live in the "metro" Huntsville area, the school system boundaries can be quite close. We are in Madison County School System, yet live less than 3 miles from both Huntsville City and Madison City School systems.

The school will be built on 70-plus acres on the Limestone County side of County Line Road and the plan is for the school to be ready for students in fall 2009.

Where is this school going to be built? Do they have the property, yet?

I asked about that and it is supposed to be by Town of Cambridge, but the $$ isn't there to support the construction. It's all speculation as far as I know.

It is just north of the Whitworth Farm Subdivision on the Limestone side. Assume it will tie into the light at Mill.

Correction, the light is at Whitworth Farm. The school will be north of the existing light.

While am a resident of Madison city and have high regard for the schools, Madison County is also excellent; my wife is a teacher at Monrovia Middle, which feeds into Sparkman High, both excellent schools. You can also get a lot more house for the $ in Monrovia / Toney area.

The new Madison city High School property has been secured (as Aotobahn notes) adjacent to County Line Road. A new elementary school will be open on the '09 school year at Mill Road and Mose Chapel.

Know your developer, the sub-division and the HOA budget & policies !! Read the Covenants & Association By-Laws, if applicable.

Two More Huntsville Schools Could Close - WAAYTV.com - Huntsville, Alabama - News Weather, Sports |

I wonder how this will affect Blossomwood neighborhood property values. Currently, Blossomwood is a Great Schools 9 out of 10. East Clinton is a 4 out of 10. East Clinton kids would merge into Blossomwood. Will that affect Blossomwood's Great Schools Rating? If it does, will Blossomwood's property values go down?

Exactly the opposite as Lincoln ES is a 7 out of 10 and its kids would merge into MLK ES school which is a 1 out of 10. The MLK ES score may go up and raise its neighborhood property values.
