Before the rezoning, you were able to say "If the house ends up with Grissom as it's HS, then it's good (except Farley, kinda)." But now, you'd have to be more specific with SE HSV schools. Mt.Gap/Mt.Gap/Grissom or Challenger/Mt.Gap/Grissom are best bets. Being over in Hampton Cove works too, but you're in Hampton Cove so you have to go over the mountain to get to Grissom.

I consider both SE HSV and Madison to be characterless Suburbs that are nearly identical. "Marietta Syndrome" at work. It all depends which is a better commute. Madison will make you drive into the sun if you work in HSV.

(Older women might be more snooty in SE HSV. Younger women might be more snooty in Madison.)

Hmm... I guess you've never been to Edgewater.

Used to walk through it when I lived at Colonial Grand at Edgewater from 2006-2008. It's a nice subdivision. And, I suppose if you're comparing subdivisions it's got more character than most. But even if it was typical of Madison, then Madison itself would still be a soulless suburb of McMansions. (Except for Madison's tiny ghettos, of course.)

I have a nephew moving to the area this summer and he has found a REALLY cheap apartment on Michael Ave. I told him to look in Madison because he will be working at BASF. I am not familiar with that area so I am not sure what to tell him. I am very skepitcal because of the price he is getting. Anything in Madison is good/safe? Advice?

Thank you so much Zap. I googled Michael Avenue and it is a loop off Wall Triana with extremely high crime. I was under the impression these areas did not exist in Madison and gave him bad information. I will certainly steer him away from any apartment near Wall Triana!

That area SW of Gillespie is sketchy.

The apartments up where Wall Triana is called Sullivan are fine, as are the ones near the railroad tracks.

And, actually, some of them in that little ghetto might be OK. I'm guessing (aka disclaimer, I'm guessing) that most of the people living in them are the working poor who just want good schools for their kids.

Hunters Chase, off Gillespie, is scary though. (my opinion)

Ok, I am feeling like a deafeted man. I had to take back my statement that anything in Madison is golden. Hunter's Chase is the second apartment my nephew found. He pretty much thinks I'm an idiot now. I should be old enough to know if something is cheap, there is a reason.

Thanks for the education. I spend most of my time in Madison near I-565, the 72 side, or Mill Rd/Countyline area. I am so surprised that these "less than desirable" places exist in such a wonderful widespread city.

I would love to live in one of the nice Madison neighborhoods and I can't afford it YET. I have traveled to many places outside of tn valley and no city is as nice as Madison. We have a real gem.
