That's great news. I'd almost forgotten about it since it was announced a couple years ago.

The Zierdt Rd/Edgewater Drive intersection is now open, as of late afternoon 9/23. It's not completely finished, but the final wear layer will be laid once the southbound lanes are opened. The intersection had to be raised about 4 feet, and all the work was done in just over 3 weeks, and was opened just before the heavy rains started.

Wonder if this will be an additional facility or replacement. If replacement imagine the hospital has plans for that property.
it's a replacement. this project will have more beds than the current facility, with future growth planned up to 100 total.

I can see a possible new hospital high rise at the site of the old one in the coming years.

Some info from back in January

New development next to Stovehouse along Governors Drive. A great quality infill development on property that has been vacant for a long time.

The Beach Company of Charleston, S.C., announced Wednesday it had acquired 13.13 acres of land along Governors Drive and bounded on the west by 13th Street NW.
The mixed-use project will feature multiple buildings totaling about 26,000 square feet of office, retail and dining space in addition to 260 multi-family units, 14 townhomes and a 100-room hotel. Residential amenities will include a pool, a fitness area, a clubhouse and ample green space with a dog park, the announcement said.

What ever happened to the proposed pedestrian "Skybridge" over Memorial Parkway north of Governors Drive? Did the city get the federal grant approved?

Perhaps just as importantly - would the location of the bridge interfere with a Parkway/565 interchange rebuild at some point in the future?

that was definitely a big part of it, although the name change came a good 15 years after the richard scrushy accounting scandal. they purchased a company called encompass home health a few years back. with their rapid expansion throughout the country, i think they decided that "healthsouth" was too regional sounding (and, frankly, not the easiest word to say with two "th" sounds haha).

it's amazing how this company has turned things around. so much so that they are up to 583 on the fortune 1000.

That information was first posted here January 31 and February 1. I hope it actually moves forward as planned. Don't forget about all the other projects in Huntsville that had nice plans and beautiful renderings but were never started or finished.
