There are also houses available in Limestone County along the TN and Elk (and tributaries). I like it there, it is quiet and (I hear) great fishing. If the kids are into high-speed boats and such, though, the Elk probably isn't that good...too many snags and trees.

Guntersville Lake is much larger than Smith Lake and encompasses several cities and there are a lot of houses all around the lake or on the mountain side above the lake. You can check out Marshall county, Guntersville, Scottsboro and Arab School systems. TVA controls the shore and the waterway. Many ppl have a lot on the lake that contains a boathouse that is owned by 2 families. They don't live right on the lake but have lake access with their house being up the side of the mountain. Guntersville is a nice city although there is no mall or movie theater.

Ehh.. Cullman is 20-25 minutes from Arab on a 2 lane road. I know of a few ppl who live around the area but no one who lives in Cullman. There are some small cities all around Cullman.

I may be "generalizing" too much when I say Cullman, I mean to refer to any area adjacent to Smith Lake.
