Just wondering what everyone's favorite dive, hole in the wall, or other eatery is around here. We have been here a month and haven't been too impressed with some of the restaurants. Didn't care much for Ting Ting or Dreamland. Any suggestions other than the obvious Cracker Barrell, Red Robin, Fast Food etc? Cheap, yummy and kid friendly are what we are looking for. And the healthier the better!

Thanks!

The El Cazador taco truck at the corner of Triana and Drake is definitely cheap and a "dive" but super delicious. I believe they also have an actual restaurant on South Memorial.

I hear Dub's Burgers in Athens is really good, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

For BBQ, we like Greenbrier (either one, but the old one has $.25 self-serve ice cream cones) or Thomas Pit.

Check the restaurant thread below this one for some more ideas.

Bandito Burrito, the original on Governor's Drive. Not authentic Mexican but very addictive...when I have a hankering for Bandito, nothing else will do...

but I also second the Taco Truck...El Cazador

Try Gibson's Bar-B-Que on South Pkwy. Their bar-b-que is good, but their chocolate and coconut pie is excellent. We also like Dallas Mills Deli on University east for breakfast.

I thought the ice cream machine was free if you were eating dinner there.

Thanks for these so far!! We ate at Rolos tonight and thought it was pretty good- had the pot roast. Mississippi Mud cake afterward was fantastic too! I think we will frequent Rolos-hoping to find more places like it. Banditio Burrito is certainly on our list to try and we will check out the others you mentioned. Keep em' coming! Thanks!!-- By the way we live near Hampton Cove if that's helpful. We were going to live in Madison but plans changed. However, we will drive anywhere in town that is recommended.

One of our favorites is El Olmeca in Hampton Cove, the family raved about it when they were in from Chicago-my aunt and uncle don't typically like mexican(they had the fajitas which are awesome!)

We also like Thomas Pit in Madison.

El Coyote used to be on the list, the food is good, but after a bad experience I no longer recommend them.

Keep in mind though, we don't eat out too much these days-we have turned into our parents-AGGGGGH
