Default Forest Fire 7/19

About an hour ago, a forest fire started near Orofino, near the ridge of Dworsak Lake and near Dent Road and Wells Bench Road. It has burned about 10 acres.

Fire fighting helicopters have been filling up water from the Clearwater River, near the Best Western.

Clearwater Tribune personnel are listening to the scanner and say several homes have been evacuated.

It has burned about 10 acres as of 2:00 today and it's burning away from town.

That's a beautiful area, clearwater66. Hopefully, they'll get it under control before it gets too large.

Idaho recognizes valid concealed weapons licenses from all other states that issue them. The only requirement is that anyone carrying a concealed weapon must also carry a valid concealed carry license at all times.
The state attorney general's office reports that Idaho has signed reciprocity agreements with Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming.
There are other states that recognize Idaho's existing concealed carry license, without a reciprocity agreement. Those include Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont and Wisconsin.
Idaho concealed weapons permits are currently not recognized in California, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virgin Islands, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Illinois.
The non-enhanced concealed carry license will remain available. That permit requires proof of familiarity with firearms and accepts state agency-provided hunter education or hunter safety courses.
The enhanced license calls for eight hours of training with a qualified instructor that includes instruction in the use of deadly force, self-defense principles, and gun laws. Live fire training of at least 98 rounds of ammunition is also required.
The fee for the enhanced concealed carry license in Kootenai County will be $66.50.
Beginning Monday, the initial fee for a basic permit will increase from $59 to $66.50.
The sheriff's office takes photos and issues approved permits for civilians and retired law enforcement officers Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
New permit applications and fingerprinting is on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
So get those 98 rounds ready. I wonder how many man-hours they spent figuring 98 rounds???

On July 1, Idaho’s Office of the Attorney General sent a letter to all states requesting them to consider and establish recognition of Idaho’s license to carry a concealed weapon and/or enhanced license to carry a concealed weapon. Idaho recognizes valid concealed carry permits from all states, but these formal agreements allow Idaho residents with a valid license to carry a concealed weapon to legally carry a concealed handgun for self-defense in certain other states. Since then, Idaho has entered into full concealed carry reciprocity agreements with 14 states, bringing Idaho’s total number of reciprocity agreements to 19. Of the 14 new states, South Carolina and Wyoming opted to recognize only the enhanced license to carry a concealed weapon. Not all states have responded to the letter at this time. Please note - several states recognize Idaho concealed carry licenses in addition to those listed at the pin the table below; however, these states do not have an official agreement with the state of Idaho at this time. (NRA-ILA)

These are the states that either had an agreement already or they honor it without official agreements. I put together this list based on several sites so I can't 100% guarantee it. Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Wisconsin

This table is directly from the Idaho State Police site.

Amazing image, Syringaloid. Let's hope the firefighters get their arms around these burns before they cause serious damage. Thanks for sharing that photo.

This news about an off the grid organic farm at Fairfield near the Hailey/Ketchum/Sun Valley area is so sad. The link has the entire article:

Idaho Mountain Express: Sandhill Farm destroyed by McCan Fire - August 16, 2013

Sandhill Farm destroyed by McCan Fire

Cattle herd killed 30 miles from Ketchum
By TONY EVANS
Express Staff Writer

As smoke from the Beaver Creek Fire blows through the Wood River Valley, and evacuations are under way, another fire only 30 miles away to the southwest has already destroyed numerous buildings and killed 130 cattle.

The McCan Fire, burning northwest of Fairfied, has consumed nearly 24,000 acres since it began nine days ago after a lightening strike. On the evening of Aug. 8, high winds swept the blaze into the 50-acre Sandhill Farm, destroying three cabins, a greenhouse and several vehicles.

Sandhill Farm was featured in magazine articles as an example of the kind of rustic ranch living that could be achieved off-the-grid, with a little ingenuity.

All of the farm buildings had been reduced to twisted pieces of metal and concrete slabs. His pick-up truck was incinerated and lying in a ditch.

Three-hundred yards away, Corlett found even more tragedy. A herd of 130 cows, killed by the blaze during the night, were lying in a nearby field.
“They tried to outrun the fire by running uphill,” he said.

The smoke from the Wood River Vally fires is getting bad over here now.
I.F. has been smoky for a couple of weeks, as there were earlier fires in Challis and south of Pocatello that caused smoke to drift in. The smoke woke me up last night; I got up and closed the bedroom window.

It seems that every year now, somewhere in the intermountain west lights up. Earlier, Montana was catching fire, then last year it was Colorado and idaho, and this summer, it's Idaho first. California is always lighting up every year someplace.

I'm hoping for a colder, wetter cycle to start!
