Visiting Northern Idaho (Sandpoint area) soon and would love some suggestions on moderately difficult day hikes. Like elevation gains and great views .... something like 6-7 hour hikes.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I've been looking around the web and have not had a lot of luck.

Sandpoint area has a real wealth of hiking. There is a social hiking group called "Monday Hikers", and every Monday, rain or shine, they're hiking somewhere for a few hours. LONG hikes can be found all around, including the famous Scotchman Peaks.

I second the Scotchman peaks hike. Tough hike due to the elevation change, but nice trail. And the view...spectacular.

SS, just when are you coming out to visit? Right now, elevations above about 4400 ft are pretty well "snowed in". We have had a record cold year, with snowfall nearly twice normal in the mountains.

There's a hiking tour in Clark Fork on July 4th, from Mosquito Creek Road up to Antelope Lake. More info in the link in Post #2 in the July 2011 Events thread.
