Please allow me to apologize (in advance) if I in any way offended anyone by providing the above feedback.
I grew up in Lewiston and just recently moved from there (I'm 40 years old). All my family lives in Lewiston and your post is 100% fiction. There are no bars on windows, no one fears for their safety, a lot of people don't lock their cars at all. I have lived in many places (22 years in the military 5 of which were in Lewiston) and Lewiston is the safest place I've lived. Violent crime is extremely low.

Your post is not an accurate representation of Lewiston at all.

The only reason I won't go back there when I retire from the military is the lack of good paying jobs. If I could find a decent job it would be at the top of my list. A great place to raise a family.

Lewiston seems a nice enough town when we've gone there for sports (they're in our league) since North Idaho leagues have to cast a wide net to get enough teams...

In all respect to those of you who live there, I just cannot abide the smell. It's such an "earthy stench". I KNOW you can get used to it, and talking to the other coach he says "it's not that bad, I barely notice it", but trust me folks, for someone not from the area, it's a pretty big shock. We got out of our car and my players came out with "OH MY GOD WHAT'S THAT HORRIBLE SMELL?".

Again, I mean no disrespect to the fine people who choose to make Lewiston their home, but I do want to caution that if you're in the half of the popular with more sensitive olfactory senses, that may be a deal breaker for you and Lewiston as a relocation spot, right off the bat...

Hello I read that you were in the military in Lewiston. I have a friend that
I have lost contact with but heard he could be a recruiter in or around lewiston.
Could you tell me what military bases are around that area. He is in the marines as a
Staff Sargent. Any info would be help full. Also can you tell me what cell phone co are in the area. That also might help me in my search. Thanks

Hello Lewiston,

I am looking for a friend that I have lost track off. I know that he is in the military as a Marine Staff Sargent. I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on the bases around your area or recruiting offices. Also what cell phone companys are in the area that might help me also. Thanks for any info I can get. Chantilly

Someone was asking about snow in Lewiston. Not much, really. Lewiston is located in a valley well below nearby cities elevation (Moscow-Pullman-Grangeville). In general Lewiston is hotter in the summer and warmer in the winter than the surrounding area.

The area, like everywhere, has its good and bad. The "smell" referred to above is not 24 hours a day, and is subject to wind direction. There has been significant growth the past decade "up the hill", although I don't think there has been a huge influx of new residents.

I kind of like the setting of the area. River valley, surrounded by moderate hills (they would be called mountains back east!) It seems to be it's own little world.

Chantilly, the nearest base around that I can think of is Fairchild AFB outside Spokane--about 2 hours away.

As far as the snow goes, and people asking about riding motorcycles year-round, and needing chains, etc...if you went no where else other than Lewiston/Clarkston, you probably wouldn't need/want chains other than a couple days out of the year, if that. It is hilly, so there can be snow up in the orchards on top of the hill, but clear below.
For motorcycles--even without the snow, it could be coooold on a bike.
The smell? You do get used to it so you don't notice it. Hasn't driven off my parents yet!

I love the Lewis and Clark Valley. I would recommend taking advantage of the outdoor opportunities there are here. Hells Canyon, the deepest gorge in North America has jetboat tours that take day trips and half day trips into the canyon. I would also recommend the aerial opportunities as there are plane, helicopter, and hot air balloon flights available almost year round. There are 4 golf courses open year round due to warm summers, moderate winters, and only about 12 inches of rain a year on average.

My company, Adventurist Air, offers 1 hour hot air balloon flights over the valley with the option of have in-flight wine tasting, catered meals, and custom photography.

All my contact information is available on my profile if you are interested.

Default The paper mill

I spent three days at the RV park across the river from Lewiston last summer, and I have to say that I did notice it, but it does smell better than California.

THE SMELL well to be honest. really.......YES even after being her 9years I do notice it on occasion. But MOST large cities have SOME sort of smell.
ALSO I notice the EKO compost smell that seems to be MORE noticable in Clarkston...
