I lived in Coeurd'Alene, Post Falls area for quite a few years, The other poster is right. Extreme cloud cover in winter, (for weeks at a time) short growing season, and cold for 5 months of the year.
I suggest you look at the banana belt of Idaho which is SW of Boise. Cheaper real estate prices, longer summers, and more sun in winter.

This might be a stupid question, we have not rented in some time. Is there a restriction to the number of people allowed in rental homes?
We have 6 kids and one income. We are expecting to rent when we first get to NID. But we probably won't be able to get something big, I am thinking 2bedrooms to start. I am sure I will find more info when we come out to visit but my mind is spinning and I can't find any info.
I would love to find land and build some tiny houses on them but I am learning, from you guys thank you, that water and accessibility are going to be problems. So I need to be thinking of other ideas.

Yes, usually. We own rental homes and there are restrictions in the lease as to how many people can live in a home. The property management company provides the lease for bus so I'm guessing it's a pretty common thing.

This brings up an interesting question.
I know that in other places, there are local regulations that state the minimum square footage a person needs for living in a house or apartment, but I don't know if any of these regulations exist in Idaho.

Renting a house, I think, would be a lot different from renting an apartment in that regard. I've seen some pretty spacious 2-bedroom homes, but 8 people in any 2-bedroom place would seem to be very crowded to me, despite a home's roominess.
With that many kids, I would think there would be a hefty damage deposit up front for any rental, and I think you would find a greater variety of prices and choices if you looked for a 3-bedroom house or apartment.

In my experience, a 2-bedroom home will typically be much smaller than a 3-bedroom, and most of those I've seen are also older homes/apartments/condos.

In S. Idaho, where the LDS are more prevalent, there are quite a few 4 and 5-bedroom houses, as the LDS often have large families. Some aren't all that large or fancy, and many have been remodeled, using the attic or basement for extra bedrooms. The basement remodels are pretty common down here especially, as most houses have full or partial basements.

Our rentals are all 3 bedroom and there is a limit of two people per bedroom. That is pretty standard and I don't know that I would want to rent a place that didn't adhere to that. I would wonder about how well it was taken care of.

Hi again!
We have been sending out job applications but no one, yet, from NID has talked to us.
Burley, Id has called though!
Much more sun according the web. Not anywhere near as much snow or rain as NID. I looked on c-d geo map and it looks pretty flat and uninteresting. Are things to do outside? Are there pretty places near there?

Hello, I am a Burley native born and raised. I would have to say that as for outdoor activities, you cant ask for a better place. Shopping not so much lol. Anyway you can go Snow Skiing 15 miles away at a nice resort. Water skiing/wakeboarding on the snake river is great and right in town! World famous rock climbing is 30 miles south a the City of Rocks. Quite a few parks are around town. I have noticed that disk golf is getting popular here with a few local courses around. If you are a bicycle rider there are lots of trails in the mountains close by. Great area for snowmobiles and ATV riding also. As for pretty places, I mentioned the City of rocks, also Lake Cleveland a lake on top of a mountain is really pretty. Shoshone falls has been called the Niagara falls of the west is only 30 west.
