Even Alabama, with its third world country standards, can not cope with the reality of not having immigrants to work their fields, the hillbillies of the new century are even lazier than before, they are too busy watching reality tv shows and smoking dope, while the farmers are in despair because they are losing their crops in view of the lack of help from the laborers...

No it proves that we have allowed ourselves to overlook the abuses and forced those who tradionally did the work out of their livelyhoods. Not unlike the construction industry.

Isn't this how capitalism works, though? Americans want abundant products at the cheapest possible prices. If we really cared about jobs here in the US, we would not have made Wal-Mart, superstore of Chinese goods, the largest retailer in the entire world. If we really cared about American jobs, we would be willing to pay thousands, if not tens of thousands more, on new housing. We would be willing to pay twice as much for produce.
Fact is, we're not willing to do any of that. Illegal immigration is the result of our unwillingness to sacrifice what most matters to us: our money. Alabama is just lip service to stupid people who believe if we just kick out our cheap labor, all our problems will go away. It's easier to make other people sacrifice than to actually sacrifice anything of ourselves.

How come only less than 3% of illegals work picking crops?
And since their work is "oh si important", how come the prices of produce and etc keep going up?

You haven't proven anything with your attempt to stereotype. Farmers in Georgia and Arizona laid claim to the same rhetoric, funny how you don't here anything about it from either of those 2 states now.

You are under the impression that wages play more of a roll than they do in jobs here in the USA. Wages are the lowest portion of any product and an increase in that portion effects very little of the overall cost of the product. http://coststudies.ucdavis.edu/files...rganiccc09.pdf

You're right and your average American doesn't desire or isn't getting cheap prices due to illegal alien labor. Any so-called savings is eaten up in higher taxes for us to cover their social costs. Not to mention the loss of blue collar jobs in this country and decreased wages.
It is only the greedy employers that want these cheap, illegal laborers and it is only they that profit from them.....not us!

Illegals don't just pick fruit, obviously. And the price of everything goes up over time. It's called inflation. Weather also plays a role in crop production. Seriously, have some of you never opened an economics book in your life?

Again, I would suggest you look at all the costs involved as to what constitutes the overall price of a product, you will note wages play a very minute roll and that an increase in wage of substantial proportions would have very little effect on the overall cost.

Good, they deserve to lose their crops if they hired illegal immigrants. They have the opportunity to hire legal workers. I haven't noticed a difference in any of my produce. Had a slice of tomato on my sandwich today from a tomato that is from the United States, it was delicious.
