Jamiel inevitably interact with gangs because they are in the neighborhood, on the school bus, protecting residents from other gangs, on the street corners and at the high school.
It appears that Jamiel is guilty by association, not being a gangbanger or gang activity. So, would that mean that if the kid next door is a gangbanger/member, but you play ball with him or talk to him, that would qualify one as being a gangbanger/member? In Jamiel's case, he not only knew Bloods but pretended to be a Blood online. He had a MySpace page in which he wore a red bandanna and made gang signs, Real gang members do not know the difference between wanna bes and the real thing online. Since he said he was a Blood, hung out with Bloods, posed online as a Blood, and wore red in a Blood neighborhood, Espinoza, who went out to kill a Blood, would have thought Jamiel to be a Blood.
