Media urge not to use the words "illegal immigrant" (illegal aliens, law)

Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer slurred undocumented immigrants as "illegals," a term that has been condemned by several prominent journalistic organizations.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared on Face the Nation and he said that he intended to "pass an immigration reform bill." Schieffer responded by asking "Would that mean finding some path to citizenship for the illegals that are in this country?".... The Asian American Journalists Association's handbook implores journalists to "avoid" the word "illegals," calling it "a slur."

Someone who entered this country, stays here, works here without the proper documents is here ILLEGALLY, and is therefore an illegal.

I don't often agree when someone talks about "the PC police going too far". But anyone who's thinking that regarding this particular subject is right on the money. Best to let people keep calling them "illegals", lest they find something truly offensive to start calling them instead.

True. We could always go back to '*******.'

What they want is to be called 'immigrants' only, and not be identified as being here illegally. They'd like to just sort of slip in among the legal immigrants, and have their illegal status overlooked.
