The government a few years back hired the Boeing company to set up motion sensors and it turned out to be a waste of money. Every time the wind blew or a wild animal passed it set them off.
It seems to me the border wall along the Mexican/California has proven to be effective. A wall doesn't need to be erected along the entire border just areas that are easy to access.
the number of illegals crossing the Mexican border has already plummeted to only 170,000 per year. If the wall costs $20 billion, that's about $100,000 per crossing prevented. Electronic surveillance may be much more cost effective.
Only 170K? In ten years time that would be 1.7 million.....

We set off those sensors while hunting in the area. It is cool seeing how excited these BP guys get and take their job serious.

But the rate dropped 10-fold from 2005 to 2015. That's during the Obama years, when candidate Trump made it sound like the illegals were just flowing in like water. During that period the illegal population, which had peaked earlier at 13 million, fell to 11 million and has sort of stabilized there. I guess at 170k the inflow is balanced by those leaving.

How does anyone know exactly how many illegals are coming and going? In fact, how does anyone know the exact number of illegals that are in this country?
Illegals were "just flowing in like water" when Obama was president. You seem to forget when all those so-called "children" came pouring across and Obama let each and everyone of them in here.
It also didn't help that Obama dictated DACA. Then emboldened by that, he tried to dictate DAPA, that is until 37 states sued him over DAPA and the Fifth Circuit Court issued an injunction against DAPA. Obama thumbed his nose at the injunction and kept doing DAPA. He got caught after he had issued another 100,000 DAPA permits. Only then did he stop.

Agree...how does anyone know those who were deported actually left the country? Obama's cooked the books on that issue. He also started counting those illegals who were caught at the border and immediately returned as being deported. Prior administrations didn't count those who were turned away at the border as deported
